FeNO: Efficient Biomarker
for Asthma Management

Fractional exhaled Nitric Oxide (FeNO) is the internationally standardised, non-invasive biomarker for
airway inflammation. Its pivotal role in asthma management is recognised by leading clinical bodies like
NICE, BTS, and SIGN. The UK‘s asthma guideline (NG245) recommends FeNO testing for both
diagnosis and therapy monitoring. FeNO is preferred over other objective tests as it minimizes effort,
cost, and patient burden, while demonstrating high reliability. In patients with a history suggesting
asthma, a single positive FeNO test (adults ≥ 50 ppb | children ≥ 35 ppb) is sufficient for diagnosis.
